What a marvellous final......

The Squirrels contributed to a marvellous final that ended all square in terms of points, tries scored and conversions , so that the trophy is shared for the season. Both teams will probably rue their missed chances and unforced errors although on calm reflection a draw was probably the right result as neither team deserved to lose. Mountain Ash dominated the first half camping in Rhiwbina territory with the Squirrels seemingly powerless to get over the halfway line as the "Old Firm" big forwards dominated exchanges to lead 12-0. However just before the interval a Squirrels try proved important to get themselves back into a game that they had been very much second best. Some rousing words at half time saw a much better second half performance as they moved the ball well through the hand as well as matching the Mountain ash forwards up front. Two tries looked to have given the Squirrels success with the final one just minutes from the end but success was not to be as Mountain Ash took advantage of some loose Squirrels play including conceding a raft of penalties to force themselves over from close quarters. With the conversion if successful meaning a drawn game full marks to the kicker who slotted over with aplomb.

What a way to end the season and well done to everyone players, coaches and parents who have all contributed to a really successful season and what an experience for the boys, playing at the Arms Park it such a competitive and compelling final, something they will never forget.
