An Evening with Hobbsy

An Evening to remember

In a triumph of tantalising technology, around 150 people from around the globe came together to experience an ’Evening with Hobbsy’. It was over two hours of excellent entertainment, with the very best of examples of humanity, humility and humour from a star-studded cast, raising over £3,000 for Dave’s two chosen charities – Velindre Cancer Care and City Hospice. Compared to some of the Zoom meetings that have been seen, this one ran super smooth, so thanks to all those to who supported and sponsored the event and contributed to the fantastic content and to the technology that knitted it all together.

A special thank you to guest interviewer Phil Steele, who made a special appearance, beaming in from Equatorial Taffs Well to put Hobbsy on the spot with some searching questions in two kiss and tell interviews. Thanks also to Rhiwbina’s very own Sam Warburton, who made a special presentation to Hobbsy outside the Hobbit’s house, and who managed to get a word in edgeways despite Harry Trelawny.

The talented Harry Trelawny kept the whole eveing going, and there were contributions from lots of other Squirrels.  Mouse presented our very own reality show ‘I’m a Squirrel – Get me out of Here’, in which various people were sick in Rhiwbina Rec car park – just like being on tour.

Hobbsy went through a list of Player’s Awards, Soccer AM style, in which we found out that one particular family had the distinction of having both the thickest and hardest players.  Hobbsy listed various highlights of past tours, which made this correspondent very relieved that he never had the pleasure of going on one!

It’s been amazing over the past number of weeks to see the #100kforHobbsy and other fund-raising initiatives gaining momentum around Rhiwbina and North Cardiff, and also in places as far away as in New Zealand.

Thanks again to all those who contributed to a memorable and unforgettable ‘Evening with Hobbsy’ and most of all, thanks to Dave Hobbs for everything that he has done for the rugby community in Rhiwbina. You’re a one-off Dave and we love you dearly.
