Rhiwbina defeated at the Rocks

Another much-changed Rhiwbina side were no match for a very solid and attack-minded St Peter’s who scored five well-taken tries. Rhiwbina were guilty of several handling errors, but the impressive young Rocks were always up quickly in defence and were even quicker on the counter-attack, looking to run the ball from everywhere on the field.

To their credit, the Squirrels came up with some good periods of ball-retention and were very determined in their defence and, as always, Elliot Jones looked to attack from every opportunity and some of his clearance kicks were immense.

The Rocks scored two first half tries and the Squirrels did well to restrict the scoring. The Rocks scored soon after the second half re-start and made sure of their bonus point after about 30 minutes. Despite a yellow card for a late tackle, the Rocks scored their fifth try soon after and then came some of Rhiwbina’s best rugby of the game, culminating in a very well-finished try by Huw Humphreys in the bottom corner – a reward from some excellent earlier attacking runs.

The Rocks finished off with a penalty kick from in the front of the posts, before a final effort by Rhiwbina was stopped just short.
