Squirrels turn the tables on St Joes

Rhiwbina welcomed Evan Wall on his first team debut at St Joes, along with the return of Matthew Hall after his glowing career in English rugby.  After their 50-0 home drubbing at the hands of St Joes, the Squirrels were determined to make amends.  And they certainly started with a bang in the first half, showing the pace and strength that they have in recent weeks.  A well worked try by Dave Gilbert converted by Diggy Bird, along with a Bird penalty gave the Squirrels a deserved 3-10 lead at half time.

The Joes fought back as always with two second half tries, but the game was secured with a full-house by Diggy Bird, with a great try, a conversion, a second penalty and a drop-goal.  Bird took several defenders over with him for his try and racked up 15 individual points in an impressive man of the match performance.

The final score was 15-20 to the Squirrels. The result meant that the Squirrels ended the regional Plate league in third place with 20pts, and the bonus point they secured meant St Joes won the league - so congratulations to them.
