Fixture

After 2 months Seasonal Repositioning break, followed by a near complete weather wash-out during February – the boys were glad to be back actually playing rugby games!! Cobwebs were quickly blown away from the first whistle against Beddau who scored 2 very quick tries. When our squirrels looked for answers – up stepped Will with a lovely run that wouldn’t have looked out of place the previous day at Twickenham! What a try! But it was short lived with Beddau lively in a physical encounter. Jack Mills was dogged in defence and aggressive in attack, interweaving well with Chester & Shearer. Beddau pressure was too much and they quickly ran in a 3rd, 4th and then 5th try! The tackle count was rocketing for Squirrels, which was great to see from Logan, Evan Reynolds and Issac!

On the next pitch, the Squirrels couldn’t contain their excitement to be back on the hallowed turf of Caedelyn.  The mighty squirrels put all of their skills training into practise and blew us away with their amazing display of passing and driving the ball forwards.  In the first half we witnessed some excellent rucking and tackles by Ewan with Andre on hand to nip past the line and score us two tries.   During the second half the squirrels kept the pressure on and on more than one occasion they battled Llandaff North away right on their try line.  After another display of passing by the team, Seb found a gap and darted through it to win us our third try of the morning. 

Match 3 saw the squirrels take on Llandaff North as the chilly start, turned colder!! Fortunately the rugby warmed up all the supporters! Shearer smashed through for the first try – excellent strength. Joel continued his great tackling from Game 1 and was hunting down the ball. He was rewarded with a brace of tries to put some daylight between the Squirrels and Llandaff North. After coming back on from taking a knock – Will bravely went over the line to score again! Llandaff put some good runs together and were rewarded but everytime the scores got close – the Squirrels pushed on! This time Lewis weaved in and out to sidestep the last man and score for the Squirrels. Joel & Chetser rounded off a satisfying performance with a try each in the last minutes! Job. Done.

The final match was against Beddau. There’s no denying that Beddau are an absolute force to be reckoned with – but the Squirrels admirably defended their fortress.  With a flurry of exceptional passes Arun scored us our first try of the game. Once again the squirrels battled on the try line with some great rucking skills being shown all of the team.  Sonny made some cracking runs for us with Evan on hand to help drive the ball forward.  Ewan and Seb made some awesome tackles and with moments to spare in the second half we scored our second try of the game.

The boys were a little rusty from the extended break, but some great effort & heart, combined with some individual brilliance! Overall - a good day in the office & lots for the coaches to work on 😊
