Rhiwbina 17 Aberavon Quins 48

Rhiwbina faced Aberavon Quins in the second round of the WRU 2nd Division Cup.

The Quins play in Division 2 West Central and had won all 3 league games this season.

This was always going to be a tough task for the young squirrels, but having said that, Rhiwbina had their best start of the season with 2 early tries, racing into a 14-0 lead

However, a Rhiwbina yellow card allowed the Quins to get 2 quick tries of their own.

Just before half-time Rhiwbina were awarded a penalty which they duly converted

Half-time Rhiwbina 17 Quins 14

With Rhiwbina having the wind in the first half, being 17-14 up was always going to be a tough score to defend.

As with previous games, Rhiwbina had plenty of opportunities to score but just couldn’t get over the line.

Quins kept the scoreboard ticking over, scoring 31 unanswered points.

A disappointing end to the game but a first half that the young Rhiwbina side can be proud of.

We wish the Quins best of luck in their cup run

Rhiwbina RFC Fixtures Sat 18th October 2025

Rhiwbina 10 Cardiff Quins 53.

A tough day at the office for the Squirrels First XV.

As a contest this game was effectively over in the first 15 to 20 minutes against a well drilled Quins side.
The only way Rhiwbina could get anything out of this game was to score a 4 try bonus point.
Rhiwbina scored 2 tries and pressurised the Quins line for long periods but couldn’t make it count. In effect this has been Rhiwbina’s Achilles heel over the past few seasons – bags of possession and territory but coming away with nothing to show for it.

Next up in the league is Llantwit Fardre – lets hope for better things this time!
