Squirrels U9s blow the cobwebs away!

Another early Sunday morning start for the Squirrels, saw them warmly host Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd & Caerphilly at Caedelyn Park!

Both of which had some strong players who all played with the same rugby ethos as ourselves. It was clear to see our squirrels were chomping at the bit waiting for the game to start, they couldn’t wait to get out and play some rugby. After having 3 weeks off due to the great British weather, the team were eager to be getting some game time. They started well with a very quick 2 nil lead. Some excellent tries were made, a lot of powerful tackles took place. Definitely an exciting couple of games to watch for the spectators and both close in score. William made his debut this weekend, certainly making his mark, putting in some great tackles as well covering a lot of ground. All in all there was some fantastic rugby being played by all taking part. Well done to Our squirrel of the week Seb!

On the other pitch, the Squirrels were evenly matched with Caerphilly in the first half, but helped by 2 flying tries from Archie & a strong run to cross the line from Aaron, Rhiwbina went in at half time leading! The second half saw Morgan steamroll their defence on many occaisions, and the physicality of the Squirrels combined with some excellent passing saw tries for Euan & Aaron. But Caerphilly came back at the Squirrels with some excellent rugby leading to a couple of tries, before a flying intercept & pitch long sprint saw Euan dive over the line at the death!! WHAT. A. GAME! Spurred on by the theatrics of the first game, Squirrels pushed on in the second. Two tries from Lewis took the boys in level against Cymry Caerdydd at half time. In the second half Issac's blistering pace on the wing opened up opportunities for the Squirrels Archie & Jack converted excellent tries. Josh made several runs, carving open the defence & Morgan again demonstrated his prowess! Every boy in the team stood up to be counted, and it was no surprise that everyone in the team were given a team Squirrel of the Week!!

Bring on next week & the massive clash with... Whitchurch!
