Rhiwbina 2nds 19 Ammanford 2nds 17
The Squirrels pulled off an entertaining win against visitors Ammanford in the WRU Conference at windy Caedelyn on Saturday. Both sets of players showed excellent skills and attacking intent to entertain the Rhiwbina faithful, and the ref played his part in making the second half interesting.
Rhiwbina took the lead with a well-made try for Josh Moscardini, converted by Dylan Casella. Skipper Jack Corney then powered his way over for a try which remained unconverted thanks to the strong wind. Ammanford's skillful and tricky centre then jinked and jived his way over for a try under the posts on what was the visitors' first excursion into the Rhiwbina 22 just before half time, making the score at the break 12-7.
With the wind at their backs Ammanford's tactic was to boot the ball downfield, and this paid off as they scored their second try to bring the scores level at 12-12. However, Rhiwbina then had their best period of play as they attacked the scoreboard corner and the pressure paid off as veteran Roy Pesticcio finished off several forward drives with a try, well-converted by Dylan. Then came a flurry of yellow cards and a red card as the visitors became more and more frustrated. However, they scored what seemed to be the equalising try, but the hastily taken conversion was missed and Rhiwbina held on to register a valuable win in the WRU Conference.
