Rhiwbina Youth match report

Rhiwbina RFC Youth V’s Llanishen RFC Youth

Saturday 17th November 2018, at Caedelyn Park, K.O. 11.00am.

Another Dazzling Match Report

For the record the Youth have played one other fixture since the last report, losing away to Pentyrch in the cup by 26-7, in what turned out to be an eventful day for Dylan Morgan, who rounded off some excellent team play to score a try under the posts at the end of the first half. He then found himself on the wrong side of the referee just after half time with a red card for a high tackle.

Now on to the game against Llanishen. Taking nothing away from the same group of committed players that train and play each week, another disappointing turn out of just 12 allowed the game to go ahead under “Game On” rules.

With plenty of wide-open space on the pitch (only 3 allowed in the back line!!!) and some poor tackling by Rhiwbina, meant that Llanishen found themselves in an early 14 nil lead. Then a period of sustained pressure by Rhiwbina in their opponents’ 22 saw hooker Charlie White drive strongly through Llanishen’s defensive line to score. Llanishen responded with another converted try, but once again Rhiwbina rallied and after a series of penalties conceded by Llanishen, a quick tap and go and some swift handling put wing Archie Scott over in the corner. Outside half Mike O’Hanlon converted both tries for Rhiwbina.

Playing down the slope and with the wind behind, Rhiwbina started the second half confidently, pinning Llanishen back. Eventually, after some excellent loop play by the “3” backs, an off load to No 8 and inspirational Captain Seb Ripley saw him sprint clear to touch down under the posts. With the conversion successful the scores were now level at 21 a piece. In the last 10 minutes Rhiwbina spoiled all their hard work with some poor defending, allowing Llanishen to score 2 tries and come away with the win 21-31.

Next fixture is a big one at home to local rivals and league leaders Cardiff Harlequins on Saturday24th November. Your support would be welcomed.
